The academicons are indeed absent in the lualatex PDF output as well. Other TeXSE posts refer to systems that can't find the academicon font files, but that doesn't seem to be problem here. LuaTeX finds the file OK, but deems the glyphs missing. System is TexLive 2018 recent Linux (fedora 29) install. Can anyone help?

The academicons are indeed absent in the lualatex PDF output as well. Other TeXSE posts refer to systems that can't find the academicon font files, but that doesn't seem to be problem here. LuaTeX finds the file OK, but deems the glyphs missing. System is TexLive 2018 recent Linux (fedora 29) install. Can anyone help?
