Sinus Vindobonensis[1] est regio partim plana partim collina inter Alpes, Carpates et Campos Pannonicos ambitu 50 × 200 km². Circiter 80 % areae ad Austriam Inferiorem et Vindobonam, pars autem septentrionalis ad Cechiam et Slovaciam pertinet. Pluries nomen tantum ad regionem fere triangularem a Danubio in meridiem versus adhibetur, cum pars a Danubio in septentrionem versus Marchfeld appelletur.





Geologia |


Basis sinus Vindobonensis circiter 20 milliones annorum ante – formatione Alpium quasi finita – paulatim in profundum mergebat, quod terrae crustae in regione Vindobonensi zona debilis est. Hic motus adhuc 1-2 mm quotannis progreditur, quod crebrae (sed plerumque leves) terrae motus efficit. Sinus sedimentis marinis fluvialibusque completus est, quorum altitudo usque ad 6 km attingere potest.
