Rachias, qui medio saeculo I floruit, primus ex insula Taprobana Romam venit (principe Claudio) legationemque regalem eo duxit, assistente ut videtur Annii Plocami liberto qui nolens, aquilonibus raptus, illam insulam visitaverat. Plinius de geographia insulae a legatis descripta refert, sed etiam de limitibus Sericae a patre Rachiae frequentatis:
