Philippus Iacobus Spener, pater Pietismi dictus.


Pietismus est motus religiosus qui saeculo 17 in terris Germanicis intra ecclesiam protestantem ortus est. Pietistae, super fundamenta reformationis saeculi 16, id agebant, ut pietas vera in rebus internis necnon externis exerceretur et perficeretur.[1]


Argumentum regenerationis (novae nativitatis) hominis maximi momenti in pietismo erat. Homini opus erat se converti, se avertere ab mundo, ut in Christo renasci posset. Hoc argumentum iam in libro Vom wahren Christentum (1605), Latine De vero Christianismo libri quatuor (Lunaeburgi, 1625),[2] ab Ioanne Arndt conscripto, adlatum est. Arndt, theologus, qui fidem pietatemque mysticas extulit, in controversias cum orthodoxia Lutherana incidit, se tamen pro orthodoxo habuit, praecursor pietismi magni momenti esse putatur.


Anno 1670 Philippus Iacobus Spener primum collegium pietatis Francofurti condidit, anno 1675 librum intitulatum Pia desideria divulgavit. Hoc in libro programma reformationis ecclesiae proposuit:[3][4]

  • inculcatio quod Christianismus non in theoria, sed praxi consistat
