Cuneus aëneus ad signa sancti Isidori Chii producenda, peregrinatoribus saec. fere VI data. Videntur miles martyr, navism (cuius protector est), puteus in sacrarium conversus ΙΣ ΧΡ / + Ο ΑΓΙΟΣ ΗΣΙΔΩΡΟΣ / ΔΕΧ ΕΥΛΟΓΙ "Iesus Christus. Sanctus Isidorus. Benedictionem cape" (Museum Artium Walters Baltimorae acc. no. 54.230)


Isidorus Chius, ita propter martyrium in insula Chio nuncupatus, fuerit miles Romanus, origine Alexandrinus, qui Christianitatem confessus anno fere 251 supplicium ultimum subivit. Corpus eius iactum est in puteum qui postea in sacrarium salutiferum conversus est. Reliquia eius olim in eadem insula servata anno 1125 Venetiis in sacello Basilicae Sancti Marci deposita sunt.


Isidorus sanctus et martyr die 14 Maii celebratur Chiumque, Venetias, naves protegere reputatur. Dicitur lacrimas Isidori, dum supplicium passus est, arborem lentiscum mastichophorum (nomine botanico Pistacia lentiscus var. Chia) primum generavisse qui in hac insula neque alibi gignitur.[1]
