Aniconismus (a Graeco alpha privativo + nomine εικων 'imago' + suffixo -ισμος) in variiis culturis est absentia corporearum mundi naturalis et supernaturalis repraesentationum, praecipue in traditionibus monotheisticis religionum Abrahamicarum. Aniconismus extendi potest ad solum numina, Deum, vel deitates, vel etiam ad prophetas, sanctos, vel alios veneratos, etiam ad homines, animalia, et omnes organismos, et tandem ad omnia quae sunt. Haec res plerumque per traditiones religiosas digeruntur, et sic tapu fit. Aniconismus, cum per corporeum imaginum exitium exercetur, iconoclasmus fit.


Aniconismi fons maximi momenti est interdictio imaginum in Vetere Testamento, imprimis prima decalogi tabula (Ex. 20:1–5):
