Plena fluminis longitudo est 156 milia, ab Aditu Pontii Legionensis in Comitatu Volusia Floridae ad Aditum Iovis in Comitatu Litus Palmensi extendens,[1][2] et Promunturium Cannaveralium comprehendit. Lacus Okeechobee cum lacuna per Viam Aquariam Okeechobeensem et Flumen Sanctae Luciae coniungitur, omnibus in Puncto Sewallensi confluentibus.

Lacuna Fluminis Indorum est diversissimum Americae Septentrionalis aestuarium, 4300 speciebus plantarum (2100) et animalium (2200) praeditum, inter quas sunt triginta quinque quae in minationem vel periculum vocatae perscribuntur,
plus quam ullum aestuarium in America Septentrionali situm.[3][4]Latitudo lacunae a dimidio ad quinque milia variat, et altitudo 4 pedes peraeque est.[3] Pro loco ovorum parendorum et nutriendorum multorum piscium (oceanicorum et in lacuna indigenarum) ac concharum specierum variarum est. Lacunae sunt una ex diversissimis avium multitudinibus in America. Paene tertia pars omnis multitudinis Trichechorum manatus Civitatum Foederatarum hic habitat vel per lacunam certo tempore anni migrat. Praeterea, eius litora oceanica unam praebent ex spississimis regionibus nidorum Chelonioideorum in hemisphaerio occidentali inventis. Inter 200 et 800 Tursiopes truncati in lacuna habitant.[5][6]Sciaenops ocellatus, Cynoscion nebulosus, Centropomus undecimalis, et Megalopidae sunt praecipui pisces lusorii a piscatoribus in regione Titusvillensi circumiectorum lacunae petiti.[7]
