Ioannes Baptista vel Graece Ἰωάννης ὁ βαπτιστής,[1] a multis "sanctus" appellatus, Iesum secundum Biblia Sacra antecessit, vaticinationem Isaiae implens: "vox clamantis in deserto: 'parate viam Domini; rectas facite semitas eius'".[2] Figura magni momenti est in religionibus Christiana Islamicaque. Ioannes consuetudinem unicam habebat baptizandi, ut dimittantur peccata. Et Iesus ab eo in flumine Iordane baptizatus est.
