Anno 260 a.C.n. Cornelius Scipio una cum Gaio Duilio primo consulatum gessit. Classem Romanam in proelium primum navale contra Poenos duxit, sed victus et captus est[1]. Propter cladem acceptam cognomen "Asinae" accepit. Tamen anno 254 iterum consul electus est, nunc cum Aulo Atilio A.f. Calatino (II).Hoc anno consules urbem Panormum expugnabant[2].
